On Sunday, February 15th, the world heard the horrible news. 21 Egyptian Christians kidnapped by militants affiliated with ISIS (Islamic State in the Iraq and Levant) over the last three months were brutally beheaded by radicals on a beach in Libya. A video of the executions, released by ISIS, said the executions were “a message signed with blood to the nation of the cross.”
What few people do know, however, is that there are at least five other Christians kidnapped by radical groups in Libya over the past six months whose fate remains unknown. In addition, scattered reports are suggesting that more than two dozen more Christians in Libya may have been kidnapped after Egypt began airstrikes in response to the video.
While ICC is working to comfort and care for the families of the kidnapping victims, today, we need you to join your voice with ours in calling on the Egyptian government to immediately begin rescue operations for those kidnapped by ISIS and other radicals in Libya. We are also calling on the Egyptian government to do everything possible to facilitate the safe removal of Coptic Christians trapped in dangerous areas of Libya who are at risk of attack or kidnapping. The Egyptian government must follow up with action on its promises to begin airlifts and bring Coptic Christians to safety. Sign our petition today.
